Research topic: My PhD works lie within the scope of the REACT project which aims to assess the effectiveness of novel malaria vector control strategies in combination with the community-wide coverage of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) in a context of widespread insecticide resistance in vectors throughout West Africa. It is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) implemented in 30 villages of Korhogo, northern Côte d’Ivoire, to study the impact of 2 strategies combined with LLINs: 1) a larval control strategy using microbial larvicide Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) and 2) a strategy relying on Information, Education and Communication (IEC) sessions to people in order to improve the use of LLINs and the health care seeking behavior. During this RCT, I will focus on the investigation of primary entomological indicators to assess the additional effectiveness of these strategies (reduction of vector abundance and transmission intensity). Moreover, I will study the residual transmission and its determinants factors after the interventions. This study will gather reliable community-based data on the additional effectiveness of larval control using Bti and IEC strategies in strong resistance area.
