The 18th E-SOVE Conference event will take place in Montpellier, France, from 8th to 11th October 2012, and will be hosted by ‘Vector and emerging diseases Montpellier network’ (VME) which gathers researchers from CIRAD, EID Méditerranée, IRD, Montpellier Universities, CNRS, and INRA working on nuisance and vector arthropods.

Abstract submission for the 18th E-SOVE Conference is now open. The deadline for submission is the 30th June 2012. On-line registration is also available.

You can benefit from the early-bird registration fees until 15 th July 2012.

Please visit  the following website at www.esove2012.eu for details and participation process.

The 18th E-SOVE Conference will focus on: "From biology to integrated control in a changing world".

  • Vector status: taxonomy, systemic, phylogeny
  • Vector behaviour: life-history traits, fitness, intra- and inter-species competition, biology of populations, invasive species
  • Vector-pathogen interactions: vector competence, immunity of vector, vector manipulation by parasites
  • Eco-epidemiology of vector borne diseases: spatiotemporal dynamics of the transmission, geomatics, modelling
  • Vector control: biocides, repellents, traps, integrated vector management, personal protection, human and social sciences, SIT, irradiation, Wolbachia, genetic control
  • Impacts of the vector control: ecotoxicity in the food chain, politic and societal perceptions.

Keynote speakers:

  • Luke Alphey, Oxitec, Oxford - UK - “Genetic control of vector insects”
  • Agustin Estrada-Pena, University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza - Spain - “Partners and contenders: ticks, hosts, pathogens, and environment"
  • Helene Guis, Cirad, Montpellier, France - “Assessing the impacts of climate change on vector-borne diseases : what are the challenges and knowledge gaps we need to overcome?”
  • Petr Volf, Charles University, Prague - Czech Republic - “Leishmania-sand fly interaction: from the field to the lab and vice versa”.

Montpellier, is rich with remarkable heritage, is located in Southern France on hilly ground 10 kilometres (6 mi) inland from the Mediterranean Sea coast. The historical city centre, named l'Ecusson, provides a unique and intimate feeling. We just hope that you will grab this opportunity to enjoy a memorable dinner in one of the numerous restaurants.

Your participation to the conference would greatly contribute to the success of this unique event, and we look forward to meeting you in Montpellier.

Warmest regards,

Montpellier network on Vectors and Emerging Diseases (VME),

Local organisation committee

and Pr. Bulent Alten, President of E-SOVE

molecular epidemiology and evolution of infectious diseases in Latin America

25-27 April 2012, La Paz, Boliva

Epidemiología molecular y evolución de enfermedades infecciosas en america latina

La Paz, Bolivia 25-27/04/2012

> Plenary speakers

> Symposia

> Timetable

No less than 160 attendees have registered. We trust it will be a great event.

Some recalls:

(i) We are planning to design a special issue of Infection, Genetics and Evolution (Elsevier; http://www.elsevier.com/locate/meegid) dealing witht the topic of this workshop. People who would like to submit a paper in the framework of this special issue are welcome to. Articles submitted will be processed the same way than articles for nonspecial issues, that is to say: reviewing by two anonymous, independent referees. Deadline for submission is 31st July.

(ii) A major goal of this workshop is to settle a collaborative network of researchers working in Latin America on the topic of the workshop. Therefore please have handy all relevant contacts in your own countries for building that network (not only scientists, but also public health people, science policy deciders, etc).

(iii) Since the topics of the talks are willingly diversified, it is advisable that every speaker introduces his/her talk by a short introduction about his/her theme, so that nonspecialists are able to follow (example: dengue virus is a RNA virus of the family Flaviviridae transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, giving the following clinical forms, with the following geographical distribution: no more than a few minutes).

(iv) Both English and Spanish are accepted. Since it is an international workshop, for non-English speakers who are fluent in English, talks in English are encouraged, so that everybody can understand. It is fine to accompany talks in Spanish with detailed slides in English.

Please contact us for any inquiry.

Welcome to La Paz!

¡Bienvenidos a La Paz!

2ndAnnouncement

18th E-SOVE Conference

Montpellier, France

October 8th-11th, 2012

On behalf of the Vector and emerging diseases Montpellier network, the E-SOVE 2012 local organisation committee and Pr. Bulent Alten, President of the E-SOVE, we have the great honour and pleasure to invite you to attend the 18th E-SOVE Conference Montpellier 2012 to present your most recent research achievements and ideas, and share our knowledge in vector ecology and vector-borne diseases and control methods. This event will take place in Montpellier, France, from 8th to 11th October 2012, and will be hosted by Vector and emerging diseases Montpellier network (VME) which gathers researchers from CIRAD, EID Méditerranean IRD, Montpellier Universities, CNRS, and INRA working on nuisance and vector arthropods.

The 18th E-SOVE Conference will focus on: "From biology to integrated control in a changing world". The programme drawn up by the scientific committee contains six sessions that explore the main topics such as vector status (taxonomy, systemic, phylogeny), vector behaviour (life-history traits, fitness, intra- and inter-species competition, biology of populations, invasive species), vector-pathogen interactions (vector competence, immunity of vector, vector manipulation by parasites), eco-epidemiology of vector borne diseases (spatiotemporal dynamics of the transmission, geomatics, modelling), vector control (biocides, repellents, traps, integrated vector management, personal protection, human and social sciences, SIT, irradiation, Wolbachia, genetic control) and impacts of the vector control (ecotoxicity in the food chain, politic and societal perceptions).

Our aim is to attract worldwide specialists, researchers, scientists, technical experts, engineers and students. The 18th E-SOVE Conference programme includes plenary and keynote presentations by leading international scientists who will address highly relevant issues in vector ecology and vector-borne diseases.

If you share these values, join us! Please visit  the following website at http://www.esove2012.eu/ for details and participation process.

The conference venue takes place in Montpellier in Southern France, at the Corum (Palais des Congrès).
