The aim of the MEEGID congress series is to disrupt compartmentalization among scientists of different disciplines, and bring them in contact with other scientists that are not directly related to their own field of expertise. In order to do this, the MEEGID conferences feature plenary lectures of broad interest. Attendees are warmly encouraged to attend talks in different disciplines to encourage the emergence of fruitful multidisciplinary collaborations. Together, the MEEGID congress series and its companion journal, Infection, Genetics and Evolution represent a unique forum for cross-fertilization between evolutionary science in the broad sense and biomedical research on infectious diseases.

Description :

Some recalls:
(i) We are planning to design a special issue of Infection, Genetics and Evolution (Elsevier; http://www.elsevier.com/locate/meegid) dealing witht the topic of this workshop. People who would like to submit a paper in the framework of this special issue are welcome to. Articles submitted will be processed the same way than articles for nonspecial issues, that is to say: reviewing by two anonymous, independent referees. Deadline for submission is 31st July.

Bulent Alten, President of the E-SOVE, we have the great honour and pleasure to invite you to attend the 18th E-SOVE Conference Montpellier 2012 to present your most recent research achievements and ideas, and share our knowledge in vector ecology and vector-borne diseases and control methods. This event will take place in Montpellier, France, from 8th to 11th October 2012, and will be hosted by Vector and emerging diseases Montpellier network (VME) which gathers researchers from CIRAD, EID Méditerranean IRD, Montpellier Universities, CNRS, and INRA working on nuisance and vector arthropods.
The 18th E-SOVE Conference will focus on: "From biology to integrated control in a changing world". The programme drawn up by the scientific committee contains six sessions that explore the main topics such as vector status (taxonomy, systemic, phylogeny), vector behaviour (life-history traits, fitness, intra- and inter-species competition, biology of populations, invasive species), vector-pathogen interactions (vector competence, immunity of vector, vector manipulation by parasites), eco-epidemiology of vector borne diseases (spatiotemporal dynamics of the transmission, geomatics, modelling), vector control (biocides, repellents, traps, integrated vector management, personal protection, human and social sciences, SIT, irradiation, Wolbachia, genetic control) and impacts of the vector control (ecotoxicity in the food chain, politic and societal perceptions).
Our aim is to attract worldwide specialists, researchers, scientists, technical experts, engineers and students. The 18th E-SOVE Conference programme includes plenary and keynote presentations by leading international scientists who will address highly relevant issues in vector ecology and vector-borne diseases.
